You can get acne anywhere on your face or body. But one of the toughest spots where you get acne and which is even more difficult to treat, is the chin. These painful zits can keep popping up over and over again and seem to multiply overnight. While most people believe that the hormones are the root cause of acne, there are actually few measures that can help you reduce and remove acne effectively.

You Can Blame The Hormones, But Treat Acne!

Your chin and jaw line are extremely responsive to hormonal changes. So, any hormonal imbalance can cause acne breakouts on the lower parts of your face, i.e. your chin and jawline. But the good part is that you can always take measures to treat your acne.

Getting acne on your chin and jawline is often referred as the beard of acne. Hormonal fluctuation, especially in young girls and women, causes the oil glands to produce more sebum. The sebum in turn clogs the pores, thus creating an ideal environment for bacterial growth, which results in acne.

Measures To Treat Acne:

If you want to reduce the zits on your chin and jawline, here are some of the practices you should adopt in your everyday skin care regime.

Wash your face just twice a day. If you wash it more often, you will strip the oils from your skin. This will put the oil glands into a hyper drive to produce more sebum. So, wash your face once in the morning and once at night. Only make an exception to this routine if your face is dirty or you have spent time at the gym sweating it out. Use an alcohol-free soap to wash your chin. Use gentle massaging motions to apply the soap, and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Use a separate towel for your face to pat it dry.
Many a times, you spread acne by touching your oily hair and transferring the oil to your chin by touching the chin with the same hand. If you have oily hair, wash your hair every night using a shampoo, especially formulated for oily hair. If you have long hair, keep it tied, so that it does not come in touch with your chin.
Many young girls and women use makeup to mask acne on their chin. You too can do it as long as the makeup is non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic. Try to use powder-based makeup rather than oil or cream-based makeup to prevent further clogging of your pores. Make it a point to remove all the makeup from your face before retiring to bed. Pay special attention to your chin.
Do not forget to apply an acne cleansing product on your face, especially on your chin. Ensure that the product contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. In fact, you can also use two different products – one with salicylic acid and the other with benzoyl peroxide. This combination therapy often works better than the single product therapy.
Never ever scratch your zits. This can worsen your acne and may result in infection. Remember, if your acne gets infected, the chances of scarring are very high.
Use Oral Antibiotics With Topical Acne Medication:

If you don’t find any improvement with the aforementioned tips, visit your dermatologist for a course of oral antibiotics. Remember, this is just a temporary solution and there is no way to banish acne forever. All you can do is reduce the breakouts. However, instead of relying only on antibiotics, combine it with topical acne medication. Ask your dermatologist to prescribe both. Make it a point to continue with the topical medication once you discontinue the antibiotics.

Using the tips mentioned above is the way to reduce the number of zits, pimples and prevent permanent scars from occurring.

We all desire for a flawless skin, don’t we? We love our skin and try hard to maintain it every day. But there are certain factors which makes it difficult . Yes, we are talking about acne. Even with the best of efforts, we still experience breakouts for reasons beyond our control. There are many types of acne. One such type is Comedonal Acne that occurs on our foreheads and chin. We usually call them blackheads, whiteheads and acne.

What is Comedonal Acne?

The causes of acne, especially comedonal acne, can vary from person to person. Some of the major types and their causes are:

Whiteheads: Most of you may have had it, while some lucky ones might just have escaped its clutches! These are harmless-looking white spots on the skin. Our skin has pores which contain natural oil glands. Sometimes the oils secreted by our skin’s glands get trapped below the outer layer of the skin. This oil appears whitish on the surface.
Blackheads: These are black spots, also known as Open Comedo. They are not inflammatory and are usually prominent in the T-zone. The oil and sebum from our glands sometime get clogged by bacteria, oil or skin debris. When the contents of the pores come into contact with oxygen in the air, they react and turn black. Sometimes, a blackhead may also be a little yellowish.
Blackheads are the first stages of pimples and if left untreated, they tend to turn red and create a papule or pustule. Pimples are red, inflamed acne, which may or may not hurt when touched and can cause scars or spots.

What is the cause for acne?

Usually we all go through changes during puberty. The main changes are the spikes in hormones which affect the oil glands on the skin. Oil glands overproduce and this excessive oil production leads to whiteheads and blackheads. During puberty, it’s necessary to understand one’s skin type and use the right products.

Ways to Control Comedonal Acne:

Cleansing your face twice a day is necessary for everyone. Our skin is subjected to pollution, dust and bacteria borne by the air. These need to be cleansed from the pores in order to keep them unclogged. Clogged pores result in whiteheads and blackheads. Bacteria that are clogged in the skin’s pores cause those painful pimples and may result in papules and pustules. Hence, cleansing should be a must in your daily routine.
Use of makeup, which can clog the pores and stop them from breathing freely, should be avoided as much as possible. It’s also necessary to remove all traces of it before going to bed as leftover makeup is very bad for the skin and may result in its premature ageing.
If any comedonal acne appears, it’s best to treat it with Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is available in medicated face washes and cleansing foams which help to treat acne. Salicylic facial foam is available without prescription but it’s quite mild. So, it is better for you to consult your dermatologist and ask him to prescribe you the medicine.
Check with your doctor for hormonal problems to understand acne better. Some have hereditary acne problems while for others, there is a sudden spike in hormones, causing acne.
Over the counter creams are available for blackheads and whiteheads but it’s best to consult your dermatologist for the best suggestion.
Acne can make you feel unattractive. But please remember that millions of people, of all ages, deal with the same problem every day. You can either wallow in self pity or do something constructive to prevent acne and control it.
